High critical current STAR<sup>®</sup> wires with REBCO tapes by advanced MOCVD

Abstract RE–Ba–Cu–O (REBCO, RE = rare earth) symmetric tape round (STAR ® ) wires of 1.5–2.5 mm diameter have been fabricated with 4–12 strands REBCO made by advanced metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). 1.5 STAR just four MOCVD are able to sustain nearly the same critical current ( I c as 2.5 12 commercial-grade strands. An 1070 A, corresponding an engineering density J e 597 A −2 , has demonstrated at 4.2 K, 30 T in diameter, four-strand wire a bend radius 15 mm. This value exactly matches expected from lift factor used wire. The exhibit 1075 77 self-field and sustained currents 2500–2750 before burnout, greater than 500 . These results show that cost can be substantially reduced using fewer high-performance tapes superior performance maintained, even 4 μ m thick films.
